Digital Creative I – Motion Graphics, at Forsbergs School for Graphic Design and Advertising

(In Swedish only.) Denna kurs ingår i paketet Digital Creative I-II tillsammans med Interactive Design, men kan även läsas fristående. Kursen ger dig de nödvändiga grunderna för att kunna arbeta fram och utveckla idéer i rörlig grafik och video, anpassad för olika typer skärmar som dator, smartphone, storbildsprojektion, video mapping, live visuals/VJ-ing och audiovisual performance. Att arbeta med ett aktivt förhållande till ljud/musik är ett av fundamenten i kursen. Detta genom att inte bara klippa i takt till ljud/musik, utan även söka djupare relationer mellan syn- och hörselintryck – att jobba med vad som kallas intermodaliteter. Kursen är ett möte mellan estetik, teknik och teori med fokus på konstnärligt, kommunikativt och idéorienterat arbete.

Vi träffas en kväll i veckan, tisdagar mellan kl. 18.00-20.30, under 6 veckor. Du behöver också avsätta tid mellan träffarna.

Innehåll

Föreläsningar, workshops och eget arbete. Vi går igenom mjukvarorna After Effects, Modul8, MadMapper och hårdvaror som MIDI-controllers, converters, splitters samt ger köpråd.

Ansökan

För att bli antagen till kursen ställs inga formella krav, dock måste du ha grundläggande datorvana och tillgång till en egen Macintosh-laptop med OS X 10.6 eller nyare. Antalet platser är begränsat och antagning sker i den ordning ansökningarna kommer in.

Avgift

Studieavgiften för kursen är 4.800 kr (6 kvällar). Moms tillkommer med 1.200 kr. När du antagits måste du bekräfta din plats genom att betala en anmälningsavgift på 500 kr, vilken dras från kursavgiften vid fakturering. Resterande avgift betalas innan kursstart. Kursen är inte studiemedelsberättigad.

Diplom

Alla elever erhåller diplom efter godkänd närvaro och arbetsinsats.

Do you feel like taking part in a beginners course on Final Cut, the number one video editing software for Macs? It´s held at Konstfack, 13-17 june 09:00-17:00, by the very skilled Andreas Gaunitz. It´s about time to apply to the cutting edge program Audio Visual Production, 180 ECTS! It´s given at Högskolan Dalarna University College in Falun, Sweden (instruction language is Swedish). This education teaches you the practices as well as theories needed to work as a professional in emerging fields such as audio visual art and communication, intermedia installations, live visuals, film, music and sound design in a broader perspective.

The core idea is to cover the gap between sonic and visual elements and connect them. This is a new way of working which has great possibilities today, and therefor the old way of dividing professions is no longer necessary. As a student you decide for yourself wether you to want to aim at the commercial market or develop as an independent artist.

The Audiovisual Production Program was started by the well renowned director, editor and musician Johan Söderberg. We invite many interesting professionals to complete our own experienced team. During term three called Audio Visual Artist, I´m the main teacher. You can also apply to courses in this third term only.

As of what I know there are no education packaged as a VJ- or live audio visual artist-education, although there are of course an unlimited amount of courses out there fitting our area of expression. (Me and Martin Söderblom have a workshop/lecture series coming up in Stockholm, and possibly other cities.)

What I want to tell you about today is the theory course I took at School of Visual Arts in New York City. A very good lecturer and artist, Ofri Cnaani, gives two interesting lecture series. The one I chose was The Fourth Dimension: Video, Space and The Broken Screen. Her own description:

“This course offers pathways through the visual language of nonlinear narratives, split screens, fragmentary visual planes and their relationships with space and spatial design. We will read, view and discuss contemporary examples from selected projects made by artists, filmmakers, designers and architects that speak to these issues. Through critical discussions students will gain a fresh look at new practices of art-making that make use of emerging technologies.

Topics include: object and projection, video and sound installation, multichannel video work, digital media and architectural space, non-traditional spaces, and video art in public spaces. The course is guided by the work of artists such as Bruce Nauman, Joan Jonas, Doug Aitken, Lars Von Trier, Jane and Louise Wilson, Olafur Eliasson, Pipilotti Rist, Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Robert Wilson, Douglas Gordon, and Matthew Barney as well as by concepts and pronouncements by critics and visionaries such as Rosalind Krauss, Lev Manovich, Walter Benjamin, Hans Ulrich Obrist and Rem Koolhaas.”

The course is more focused on the aesthetics of film, and not so much motion graphics/what we usually see by “VJs”, but when it comes to theory the course is spot on for us working with visuals/VJ-ing. The reading and viewing really gave me new words on several things I have beeIn trying to discuss within both academics and practicing artists. That is sometimes complicated within a relatively new and emerging art form, not having a very developed set of definitions. In short, highly recommended!
