Hello, my name is Joel Dittrich. I am an art, design and visual culture teacher educated at Konstfack. I am self employed as an artist/designer working with photography and illustration, graphic and web design, motion graphics and live audio visual performance. I also do lectures and workshops as a guest teacher.

Style

From noise and distortion to Art Nouveau. Long sweeping passages combined with fast lines and detailed clutter. Atmospheric transparency mixed up with abstract elements and typography, inspired from a background in painting and illustration.

Relationships between time-space and space-time are beeing researched, as in “here and then” or “there and now”.

Journal films keep coming back and also a fascination though at the same time worry for a world beeing blind of speed. Semiotics is beeing experimented with in new ways.

Inspiration is not only found in the, for me freeing electronic music, but also in the academic studies, for example Bolter and Grusins theories on remediation [The MIT Press 2000] and Johan Asplunds ideas on synesthetic experiences [Bokförlaget Korpen 2003].

So there is room for artistic research, but the true techno feeling is always there in one way or an other. Something to experience with other senses than you would think!

Merits

Is one the persons behind the initiative of the Swedish VJ Union, founded I <3 AG Studios and is resident VJ in Svaj Crew. Has teached VJ-ing at Signtuna Folkhögskola, Konstfack and Nordic Visual 2 and has been VJ-ing at numerus occations such as OSC09/Färgfabriken, New Media Meeting, Norbergfestivalen, 103 Club in Berlin, Art´s Birthday/Ström i P2 (Sveriges Radio), Konstfack, Play at Arkaden/Berns and Pixelvärk at 2.35:1/Berns, for among others Adam Beyer, Håkan Lidbo, Robert Leiner, Andreas Tilliander, Slagsmålsklubben, Sofie Rimheden, Bong-Ra, Mats Almegård, Aroma aka.
