Joel Dittrich

About

I am a 50/50 audio-visual artist/university college teacher, working interdisciplinary with projects ranging from fine art, to new media performance and installation. Most of the time that means multi channel video projections, mixed and modified in real time, syncronized with audio/music in an intermodal fashion. Sometimes the projection is also mapped onto an object instead of a rectangular screen. I simultaneously perform with my own soundscapes, noise and techno beats or collaborate with other producers. I am accepting assignments in related areas such as videography, audio/video editing, motion graphics, webdesign (Wordpress) and creative direction. My ambition is to always give auditory and visual qualities equal importance, as well as keep on developing my synergetic 50% + 50% = 200% approach to being an artist/teacher.

I am working as teacher/program director at Forsbergs School for Graphic Design & Advertising, at the Digital Creative program, and as teacher/course director at BerghsSchool of Communication in collaboration with Håkan Lidbo, and as teacher/course director at Högskolan Dalarna University College at the Audio-visual Production program (Bachelor, 180 ECTS), under the supervision of Johan Söderberg.

I am educated at Konstfack University College of Arts Crafts and Design. I studied the Teacher Program on Art, Design and Visual Culture and did my diploma work on audio-visual performance & VJ-ing. I also studied Theories, Methods & Practices and The History of Photography & Video Art, which are courses on art theory and the history of ideas. At the Stockholm University I studied Musicology; Experimental Music and Sound Art. In New York City I studied The Fourth Dimension: Video, Space and The Broken Screen, at School of Visual Arts.

I am based in Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden. But I travel to other cities several times a month for work and play.
